Art Clubs specifically for teens aged between 11 and 16 years olds where your child can explore their creativity under the guidance of experienced and inspiring teachers.
For 11 – 16 year olds
This class is ideal for teens wanting to experiment with different art mediums, from print to paper cutting to sculpture and illustration. Sarah can work alongside your child to maker sure their creative vision is supported with whatever they wish to work on. Get in touch for more details.

What's happening each term...
Term 1 Sept/Oct Mask Making
Get ready to explore the exciting world of mask making. This term, teens will design and construct their own unique 3D masks, combining drawing, sculpture and mixed-media techniques to create a wearable work of art.
Inspired by Halloween, theatre, folklore, mythology and contemporary mask design, students will begin by developing their own original concepts. Through sketching and experimentation, they will explore character creation, expression, symbolism and storytelling before transforming their ideas into three-dimensional forms.
Using paper mâché, card construction techniques, paint, fabric and a variety of decorative materials, participants will learn how to build strong structures, sculpt form and texture,
and bring their designs to life.
Over the Term We Will Cover
- Developing original ideas through sketching and design work.
- Exploring character creation, storytelling and visual expression.
- 3D construction techniques using card and mixed materials.
- Paper mâché sculpting and surface-building methods.
- Painting and decorative techniques to add colour, detail and personality.
What Students Will Take Home
- An illustrated mask design showing the development of their ideas.
- A finished handmade 3D mask based on their own original concept.
- Experience working with paper mâché, sculpture and mixed-media materials.
- New skills in construction, design, problem-solving and creative planning.
- A unique piece of wearable art that reflects their creativity and imagination.
Term 2 Nov/Dec Fibre and Form
This term, teens will explore the creative possibilities of working with fibre, fabric, and wool through a series of textile projects. Combining traditional craft techniques with contemporary design, students will learn how to transform simple materials into unique handmade objects that are both practical and expressive.
Throughout the course, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of crochet, needle felting, and hand sewing. They will develop confidence using a range of tools and materials while exploring colour, texture, pattern, and form. Whether creating wearable accessories, decorative sculptures, or personalised fabric projects, students
will be encouraged to experiment, problem-solve, and develop their own creative style.
This term is ideal for young people who enjoy making, crafting, and working with their
hands. It offers a calm, mindful approach to creativity while developing practical skills
that can be continued at home long after the course has finished.
Over the Term We Will Cover
- Learning the foundations of crochet, including chain, single, and double stitches.
- Creating small crochet projects such as scrunchies, coasters, accessories, or decorative pieces.
- Exploring texture, colour, and pattern through yarn and fibre.
- Introduction to needle felting techniques and safe tool use.
- Creating 3D felted forms, including animals, characters, and abstract sculptures.
- Learning hand-sewing techniques including stitching, joining, and embellishment.
- Designing and making fabric pouches, embroidered patches, and personalised textile projects.
- Developing creative confidence, patience, and problem-solving skills through making.
What Students Will Take Home
- A crocheted project such as a scrunchie, coaster, or small accessory.
- A handmade needle-felted sculpture.
- A sewn textile project such as a fabric pouch or embroidered patch.
- Sketches, ideas, and design inspiration developed throughout the term.
- New skills in crochet, needle felting, hand sewing, and textile design.
- The knowledge and skills needed to continue creating their own textile projects at home.
Term 3 Jan/Feb Sculpture
This engaging art course is designed for teens interested in exploring the world of sculpture. Focusing on hands-on creativity, the course introduces a variety of sculpting techniques.
The main project will be crafting unique candle holders with air dry clay, while additional sessions will introduce wire sculpture, allowing students to experiment with different forms and textures.
Over the term we will cover
- Introduction to sculpting materials with an overview of air dry clay and wire.
- Air dry clay techniques. Shaping, joining, and texturing clay.
- Exploring form and function through the creation of candle holders.
- Wire sculpture basics. Learning to bend, twist, and connect wire to create expressive 3D forms.
- Finishing and decorating,
painting, sealing, and embellishing sculptures for a polished final look. - Creative problem solving, encouraging experimentation and personal expression throughout each project.
What they will take home
- A custom-designed candle holder made from air dry clay, ready for use or display.
- A wire sculpture showcasing individual creativity and new skills.
- Increased confidence in sculpting techniques and artistic self-expression.
Term 4 Feb/March Sewing
This art course introduces teens to the fundamentals of hand sewing through creative, practical projects. Students will learn essential sewing techniques, explore fabric and material choices, and develop their own unique style.
The main project will be designing and constructing a cotton tote bag featuring a functional pocket and a custom felt character for decoration.
Over the term we will cover
- Introduction to hand sewing tools and materials
- Basic hand stitches: running stitch, backstitch, whipstitch, and blanket stitch
- How to safely thread a needle and tie knots
- Understanding fabric types, with a focus on cotton and felt
- Planning and sketching a tote bag design
- Cutting fabric accurately using templates
- Creating and attaching a pocket
- Designing, cutting, and sewing a felt character
- Attaching the felt character securely to the tote bag
- Personalising projects with embellishments and creative touches
What they will take home
- A handmade cotton tote bag with a functional pocket
- A custom-designed felt character attached to the tote bag
- A set of basic hand sewing skills and stitches
- Confidence in planning and completing sewing projects
Term 5 April/May Illustration
This course is designed for teens interested in exploring the world of illustration. Throughout the term, participants will learn essential illustration techniques, develop their own creative style, and apply their skills to real-world projects. Key projects include designing a book cover jacket and creating a custom notebook cover.
Through illustration, teens develop essential artistic skills such as observation, visual storytelling, and problem-solving, which can enhance their academic performance and critical thinking abilities.
Over the course we will cover
- Fundamentals of illustration: line, shape, colour, and composition
- Design and storytelling through images
- Designing a book cover jacket

Term 6 June/July Watercolours
Focusing on illustration techniques, utilising watercolour, the teens will create a series of images that convey an emotive narrative within a handcrafted concertina book.
Throughout this process, we allow our students to take the lead, fostering an environment where their imaginations can thrive. By providing a relaxed, calm, and friendly atmosphere, we encourage them to chat, share stories, and showcase their artwork. This strengthens their self-confidence and boosts their creative abilities.
Over the course we will cover:
- Storyboarding to develop characters and narrative.
- Experimenting with watercolour techniques
Using liquid and pan watercolours, teens will be introduced to wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, blooming, salt texture, splatter, and more. - Create a concertina book and design the front cover.
- Design each page with pan watercolours and fineliners.
- At the end of the term, the teens will have the opportunity to present their work to their peers and parents.
What they will take home:
- A fully illustrated story, developed through their own ideas and storyboarding process.
- A hand-painted front cover, designed and decorated to reflect the theme or mood of their story.
- A collection of watercolour experiments and sketch studies.
- Fineliner illustrations and mixed media details..

Teens’ Art Teacher Sarah Dennis
Sarah Dennis is a paper artist and illustrator who combines traditional paper-cutting techniques, collage, and digital art. She incorporates playful elements to encourage learning through search and find, pop-ups and interactive books. Sarah loves supporting children in their creativity, she hosts classes that invite you to embrace play, imagination and self-exploration.What they’ll take away:
