Create and Play

Minibeasts have been our focus this term, with rainbow and rockin’ snails; flying ladybirds (a very popular minibeast in the Goldfinch room) and buzzy bees with movable wings and golden colouring. We sung all about these insects flying around amongst the flowers and the trees at this time of year. We’ve also explored Earth Day, the blow up Earth ball was very popular and created beautiful rainbow collages and sun lolly stick pictures. Bells were also created as one of our bluebell crafts. Imaginative and collaborative sensory play has been inspired by bluebell woods, green oobleck, rainbow foam, plasticine modelling, multicoloured rice, water play and mini building blocks, all getting those little hands working and brains developing!

Music and Move

Minibeasts and springtime have been the focus of our Music and Move classes this term. In April, we sung about April showers and sunny days, bringing with them rainbows. We sung about the colours of the rainbow and the minibeasts that appear after the rain, including spiders climbing up drainpipes and snails on the floor. We have become butterflies with colourful scarf wings; busy buzzy bees and flying ladybirds. We’ve sung about spring flowers and animals, with traditional nursery rhymes and counting songs including Five Little Bunnies. We’ve played along to many-a-song with a variety of instruments including wooden sticks, drums and egg shakers, exploring different tempos and dynamics, and danced along to Country Music Freeze Dance – yee ha – Bunny Hop, Bizzy Buzzy Bee Bop and Eurovision! Scarves have been used to play peekaboo in our Hello song; to become wipers on the bus and to roll around during our favourite Roly Poly song. We have practised stopping at red lights and moving at green lights and catching and throwing with bean bags and balls. The parachute has been a pirate ship on the ocean, a rainbow canopy and a rollercoaster for our slow and fast song.
