Celebrating a Summer Full of Creativity at our Preschool Art Sessions!
What a wonderful term we have had celebrating everything that makes summer so special! From blooming flowers and buzzing minibeasts to seaside adventures and sunny celebrations, our sessions have been filled with creativity, imagination and plenty of sensory play.
We began the term inspired by summer flowers, creating beautiful lavender collages, shimmering purple wands, cheerful sunflower cards using yellow circle stampers, and colourful sunshine streamers to celebrate the Summer Solstice.
Goldfinch was filled with the calming scent of dried lavender as the children enjoyed scooping, weighing and pouring it, discovering hidden butterflies, flowers and birds along the way. Our sensory trays were also bursting with sunflower seeds, golden sand, miniature suns and hidden treasures waiting to be explored.
Roses soon took centre stage as we created mixed-media rose collages and delicate tissue paper wreaths. To keep cool during the warmer days, we enjoyed frozen rose sensory play, experimenting with water, bubbles and ice while creating our own rose-scented perfumes and pretend cups of tea.
As nature came alive around us, we explored the fascinating life cycle of the caterpillar. The children decorated leafy habitats with paint sticks and pom-pom caterpillars before making colourful butterflies from threaded pipe cleaners and decorated pegs, emerging from their very own chrysalises.
Our wildlife adventures continued as we discovered some of the snakes and lizards native to the UK. We created painted paper-chain snakes and brightly spotted lizards, while our tuff trays became exciting habitats where reptiles could be found hiding among sand, grass and warm stones.
As the school holidays approached, we headed to the seaside! We explored some of the amazing sea creatures found around our shores, decorating fish and creating cheerful crabs. Old CDs were transformed into shimmering fish, while recycled cardboard tubes became long, ribbon-tailed sea creatures.
Our tuff trays became vibrant coral reefs and miniature rock pools, perfect for imaginative fishing adventures.
We rounded off the term with plenty of summer fun, making colourful kites, playful fidget spinners, and beautiful seashell and starfish crowns. We even whipped up delicious-looking shaving foam ice creams, complete with sprinkles, and enjoyed colourful bead play using pincers and sorting activities to develop fine motor skills.
Throughout the term, our creative adventures were accompanied by songs about planting seeds, flying minibeasts, sunshine, sneaky snakes, five little fish and, of course, the excitement of the summer holidays.
Thank you to all our wonderful little artists for another joyful term filled with curiosity, creativity and imagination. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back for more creative adventures next term!
Music, Movement and Summer Adventures
This term, our music and movement sessions have been full of summer-inspired fun. Through songs, dance, imaginative play and instruments, the children explored summer flowers, minibeasts, lizards, snakes, sea creatures and the warmth of the summer sun.
We planted imaginary little seeds and gave them time to grow, before transforming into bees, butterflies and ladybirds. With colourful scarves as wings, the children fluttered from flower to flower, bringing our summer garden to life through movement and imagination.
Our parachute activities were another highlight. Sally travelled around the sun for each day of the week, while the balls moved slowly like snails and drifting clouds, then raced quickly like charging cheetahs and running rabbits. These games encouraged listening, teamwork and an understanding of changing speed and rhythm.
We also dived beneath the waves for our Ocean Animals Freeze Dance, moving like different sea creatures before freezing when the music stopped. During the Barnyard Hoedown, we listened carefully for different farm animal sounds, while our ropes became lassos, sneaky snakes and limbo sticks for some lively Limbo Rock fun.
Shakers, bells and drums accompanied Dancing in the Summertime, helping the children practise rhythm, coordination and self-control as they stopped both playing and moving whenever they heard the word “STOP”.
Scarves grew into stems and blossomed into little flowers, balls became hot potatoes, and we imagined bubbles rising from fish beneath the water during Bubble, Bubble, Pop! Our puppets then joined in, eagerly gobbling up every last bubble.
It has been a joyful term of music, movement and make-believe, supporting confidence, coordination, listening skills and creativity through playful shared experiences.
Don’t miss our Create & Play Summer Holiday sessions a wonderful way to keep little ones engaged over the break. With seasonal crafts, sensory play and plenty of spring-inspired creativity, these sessions are perfect for curious minds aged 1.5–5.
