Session Information

Age Requirement: 5 – 10 years

Date: Thursday 30th July

Time: 10am – 3pm

Cost: £50 per child (sibling discounts available)

Get ready for a bright and imaginative summer holiday art club where children will design and build their very own cactus creations using recycled materials. Inspired by colourful, patterned plants, children will use cardboard construction, cutting, layering and glue guns with guidance to bring their unique cactus sculptures to life. They’ll explore shape, structure and bold decorative patterns, adding playful details to make each piece truly one of a kind. To complete their creations, children will paint and personalise their own terracotta plant pots using vibrant colours. This eco-friendly project encourages creativity, problem-solving and hands-on making in a fun, supportive environment, resulting in a striking piece of art to take home and display.

What they’ll take away

  • Cardboard cactus creation
  • Painted terracotta plant pot
  • 3D paper plants and flowers

What they’ll get up to

10am – 10.30am: Make a Printed Wooden Badge Icebreaker

After introductions, children will design and create their own wearable wooden badge using stencils and acrylic pens. They can personalise their piece with patterns, symbols or initials—something that represents them or could be gifted to a new friend. This gentle, creative activity helps everyone settle in, start conversations and feel part of the group.

10.30am – 11.30am: Cardboard Cactus or Plant

Children will dive straight into designing and building their own cardboard cactus or plant using a mix of recycled materials. They’ll begin by sketching simple shapes before cutting and constructing their forms with guidance, learning how to layer and join pieces securely. Once assembled, they’ll bring their creations to life with paint, exploring colour, pattern and texture. To finish, children can embellish their plants with details such as spikes, flowers and decorative elements, creating a bold, playful sculpture full of personality.

11.30am – 12pm: Snack Time

12pm – 1pm: Terracotta Plant Pot Painting

Children will turn their attention to decorating their terracotta plant pots, transforming them into vibrant homes for their creations. Using a range of paints and Posca pens, they’ll explore colour combinations, patterns and simple design techniques to personalise their pots. From bold geometric shapes to playful motifs, each child will be encouraged to experiment and develop their own style.

1pm – 1.30pm: Lunch

1.30pm – 3pm: Paper Plants

Children will create a collection of paper plants and flowers to add to their pots or arrange into a colourful bouquet. Using a variety of papers, including tissue paper, they’ll explore simple techniques such as folding, cutting and layering to form petals, leaves and stems. They’ll experiment with shape, colour and texture, learning how to build up their designs to create full, vibrant flowers. Whether adding to their cactus pots or making a standalone bouquet, this activity gives children another playful way to bring their botanical creations to life.
