Printmaking: Autumn Patterns & Creative Prints

Session Information

Age Requirement: 5–10 years

Date: Wednesday 28th October

Time: 10am–3pm

Cost: £50 per child (sibling discounts available)

Join us for a colourful day of autumn-inspired printmaking, packed with spray pens, rollers, stampers, stencils and plenty of creative experimentation.

Children will explore a range of exciting printing techniques, discovering how colours, shapes and patterns can be layered to create unique results. Inspired by autumn leaves, woodland textures, seed heads, mushrooms and seasonal colours, they’ll design their own prints on paper, card and fabric.

Our new spray pens will be out for children to experiment with, alongside handmade and ready-to-use stencils. They’ll learn how to build up colour gradually, overlap shapes and create bold patterned designs. Later in the day, they’ll carve their own printing plates from foam board before using rollers and paint to produce a series of repeat prints.

This hands-on club is perfect for children who enjoy experimenting with art materials and seeing how one design can be transformed in lots of different ways.

What they’ll take away

  • A printed fabric pencil case created using spray pens and stencils
  • A collection of autumn-inspired stencil prints
  • A framed roller print, finished with collage details
  • A selection of experimental prints made throughout the day
  • New printmaking skills and ideas to continue exploring at home

What they’ll get up to

10am–10.30am: Name Badge & Creative Icebreakers

We’ll begin the day by getting to know one another while creating personalised name badges. Using cardboard, oil pastels, coloured vinyl and permanent markers, children can add patterns, illustrations or autumn-inspired details that reflect their own style.

10.30am–11.30am: Spray Pen Printing

Our spray pens will be out for a playful session of experimentation and fabric printing.

Children will practise using the pens on paper first, exploring how colours can be layered, blended and sprayed through different shapes. They can choose from a selection of autumn-themed stencils or design and cut their own simple shapes.

Once they’re happy with their ideas, they’ll print directly onto a fabric pencil case, creating a practical and completely unique piece to take home. They might choose leaves, stars, mushrooms, abstract shapes or repeating patterns, with plenty of guidance from our art teachers along the way.

11.30am–12pm: Snack Time

12pm–1pm: Roll on the Paint

Children will be introduced to relief printing using foam boards, rollers and printing ink.

They’ll begin by drawing their design onto the foam before pressing and carving into the surface using pens and simple mark-making tools. Inspired by autumn leaves, woodland animals, trees, seed pods and seasonal patterns, each child will create their own printing plate.

They’ll then roll paint across the surface and press it onto paper to produce a series of repeat prints. The prints will be displayed on our magnetic drying board so children can compare the different colours, textures and effects they have created.

1pm–1.30pm: Lunch

1.30pm–2pm: Frame Your Favourite Print

Children will choose their favourite roller print and turn it into a finished piece of artwork.

They can add collage details, coloured paper, drawn elements or decorative borders to enhance their design before mounting and framing it to take home. This session encourages children to think carefully about composition and how small finishing touches can transform a print into a complete artwork.

2pm–3pm: Autumn Stencil Prints

We’ll finish the day by designing and creating a collection of stencil prints on card.

Children will draw and cut their own simple stencils, or choose from a range of ready-made autumn and woodland shapes. Using Posca pens, paint and printmaking tools, they’ll experiment with overlapping shapes, repeated motifs, colour combinations and layered patterns.

They can create individual cards, mini artworks or a patterned series, giving them plenty of freedom to explore their own ideas and enjoy the process of printmaking.
