Clay, Music and bugs!
April began with clay, pinch and coil pots for our watercress seeds. Coil pots are a great activity for all ages , they loved rolling out long snakes of clay and coiling them up into a bowls. The brief of clay pot was immediately expanded into elephants, faces, shell prints and even a sea cucumber. We love how children interpret each class with their own unique ideas, and seeing their enthusiasm whilst they explain the thinking behind their creations. Thanks to our Thursday group for making a Goldfinch sitting at a coffee counter! Clay is so captivating, we noticed many children maintained a much longer focus.
Children spent the first two weeks working with clay and then we moved onto music makers. They used giant tubes to decorate and transform into musical instruments. The tubes offered themselves to great stacking games at the end of each session. The 4 – 7 year olds spent time creating rainbow collages too with a variety of colourful materials including ribbons, sequins, recycled wallpaper and mosaic paper tiles.
Next terms focus will be on watercolours, pattern making and cardboard nature games!
