Our Rivers
Looking back at this term, its hard to believe how much they have created! You can browse some of their work in the images below. We kicked off June/July Kids Art Club exploring rivers, posing the question, why are they important? What creatures have we spotted recently in and around our local rivers and streams? Using paint sticks and pantone pens the kids explored mark making and using a hole punch they created patterned scales for their river creatures. A few ocean creatures made an appearance, including the Colossal squid!
During week two we started to explore insects that live in and around rivers. They produced brightly patterned bugs with poscas and card. Next it was onto one of our favourite artists Clare Youngs, inspired by her pattern design they immediately got stuck in, creating movings swans, crocodiles, cuttlefish, otters and of course dog man! We always encourage them to share a story about their creations, enthused, they put on a performance weaving all the different creatures into a story.
Week four the glue guns came out and it was time to create tree houses. Its been brilliant to see their skills develop, glue guns are now being used confidently by all the kids. Steps, ramps, ladders, furniture and beautifully designed book cases where just some of the accessories created during this week.
Stop Motion!
For the final week, we’ll be surprising them with mask making and then its time for the summer holidays! We’ve loved feedback from parents and children about how valuable these classes are to them. One of our regulars says its her absolute favourite activity of the week!
