Clay and animation
We kicked off our sculptural term with an introduction to clay through air dry clay pinch pots. Pinch pots are a great introduction to clay for beginners, next they planted watercress seeds to germinate at home.
From pinch pots to plasticine. The kids were encouraged to illustrate their characters and then mold them from colourful plasticine. Once their characters were complete, each child used collage to create their own backgrounds as a stage for their clay stories. They then had the opportunity to get to grips with basic stop motion to create a short animation. We had everything from dinosaurs to dragons, red pandas, penguins, ninja’s, sausage dogs and lots of elephants!
To end off we learnt about the May bug and its lifecycle. Using different art mediums the children were encouraged to make their own May bug. Station one was set up for sculptural bugs, station two with hole punches and paper for collage bugs and station three with junk modelling supplies. It’s been brilliant to see their creativity using different art mediums to create bugs!
We hope to see familiar faces at next terms Kids Art Club and welcome some new children. In June and July we look forward to exploring our oceans with junk modelling supplies and glue guns!
