Gelli plate and Cyanotype Printing
This term, we’ve explored mono printing using the Gelli plate to achieve instant results. We’ve experimented with positive and negative space using stencils, natural objects, and various textures. With this process, the outcome is never certain, and we learn to let go of control and embrace the joy of printmaking.
Students have demonstrated confidence and skill in using craft knives to create unique stencils for their designs, requiring focus and determination. It’s been inspiring to see them layer intricate shapes and colours to produce stunning outcomes.
In our most recent sessions, I introduced the photographic process of cyanotype. I mixed two chemicals and applied the solution onto paper, exposing it to light to create beautiful blue silhouetted designs. The students took turns composing autumnal foliage. If your child hasn’t had a chance to try this, don’t worry we’ll have this activity set up next term.
Each session is filled with magic, calm, and laughter, and it’s always a joy to see the students grow in their artistic journey.
