We have been busy. 6 months in and we are very proud to announce that we have won two awards. Goldfinch has become a regular cafe for so many in a short period of time, watching friendships develop and children create and play has been so rewarding! Its been extra special to receive two awards in recognition of our work and architecture.
ASBP Judges Award
We are really proud to announce our architects, Seb and Fin have been awarded the ASBP Judge’s Award at this year’s ASBP Healthy Buildings Conference and Expo. We were particularly proud given we were up against stiff competition in the form of the impressive Houlton Secondary School by van Heyningen and Haward Architects, and beautifully renovated East Ham Old Fire Station by dRMM.
The Judge’s Award was given to Seb and Fin (Mark Finney is the other half of Goldfinch) for their work designing Goldfinch Create & Play – the world’s first Passivhaus certified art café. The café provides space to unwind, a play area, and a large multi-function studio, all in a bright and welcoming environment to nurture wellbeing and creativity through play and craft.
Special thanks to, Ecospheric our sustainability partner, Build Collective engineers, and main contractor Earthwise Construction.
Best Civic Project, Bristol Property Awards 2024
We are delighted to have been awarded ‘Best Civic Development’ at the Bristol Property Awards for our Passive House art café constructed by Earthwise Construction.
In giving the award, judges said ‘It’s such a brilliant concept – very merit-worthy. Smart collaboration with highly appealing outcome: love what they do.’
Goldfinch Create and Play is a café in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, which runs child-oriented craft classes, as well as hosting other activities such as yoga. The café was built using timber frame construction, to the extremely stringent ‘Passive House Classic’ thermal performance and comfort standard. Passive House buildings have high levels of insulation, air tightness, and triple glazing. Almost all of the energy used by the building is generated on site using photovoltaic panels and an air source heat pump.
