Paper Mache and STEM crafts!
We all learnt to be mindful in the first couple of weeks at kids art club, tear and stick was the order of the hour and eventually the kids had their beautifully formed paper mache bowls, transforming paper into art! Paper Mache is easy to work with, all you need is paper and glue and a little patience. We tried a new technique this year with foil and tape to speed up the process! Then the paint came out. It was great to see their unique creations transform into birds, turtles, labradors and even a red panda!
From Paper Mache to STEM crafts or STEAM as we like to say, how can you leave the A for Art out of these brilliant activities. Slingshot cars brought about a much more lively art class, especially after the peaceful paper mache. The popular glue guns aided each child in making completely unique forms that move!
We like to include playful crafts to challenge the kids creatively and a series of mini projects. This term they were offered paper plates and split pins and it was brilliant to see what they came up with.
For our final weeks, inspired by World Book Day, each child will create a mini stage with lollipop stick characters. They’ll be planning in their sketchbooks and we’ll be encouraging them to share their stories with the other children.
As always we’ll have a little surprise for the last session, with Easter around the corner, you might guess the theme!
Sarah and I love teaching these classes and we’re looking forward to our next term, experimenting with clay and animation, inspired by plant and animal life cycles!
