Sculpture!
This term at Teen Art Club has been a truly special journey into the world of sculpture. Over the past weeks, our group of young artists have explored what it means to take an idea from imagination and bring it to life in three dimensions, building, shaping, refining, and transforming their work step by step.
We began with drawing, giving everyone the chance to develop their concepts on paper first. From there, the teens moved into a completely new medium, learning how to construct sculptural forms using wire and tinfoil. These materials provided a wonderfully versatile foundation, allowing them to experiment freely with shape, structure, balance, and scale.
Once their frameworks were complete, the next stage was to apply air-dry clay. This process was both challenging and exciting, as the sculptures began to take on weight, texture, and personality. The teens showed such patience and care as they smoothed surfaces, added details, and worked through the trial and error that is such an important part of creative practice.
In the final weeks of term, we turned our attention to colour and finish. The sculptures were painted and glazed, bringing each piece to life in its own unique way. Watching the transformation from simple wire forms into expressive, finished artworks has been incredibly rewarding and a real testament to the creativity, dedication, and growing
We are so proud of everything our teens have made, and we can’t wait to see where their creativity takes them next.
Next term the teens will be exploring sewing!
This art course introduces teens to the fundamentals of hand sewing through creative, practical projects. Students will learn essential sewing techniques, explore fabric and material choices, and develop their own unique style.
